Why Pray?

Why do we pray? God is in control and his will is going to happen, so what difference does prayer make?
Why did Jesus pray? He was God incarnate! Why would he need help!?

"Prayer is a war time walkie-talkie and we don't understand why it doesn't work when you use it as a domestic intercom to ring the maid for another pillow." - John Piper

Are we in a time of war or a time of peace? Do we really need to pray?

  1. God knows what He will do and His will cannot be thwarted but He uses means (prayer). We are at war, brothers! "For our battle is not against...." Note that word battle, OUR BATTLE. I'm studying Philippians this summer and yesterday I saw how Paul encourages the persecuted church there saying they are, like him, "engaged in the same conflict." There will be no peace until Jesus returns. Let us call out then to the Lord of Hosts to descend and cause men to be revived and awakened!

  2. It's a privilege to get to participate with God in his sovereign will.
